New York Auto Show: Mercedes SLS interior revealed
Mercedes’ SLS AMG tease continues, with the launch of official sketches and interior pics of its new supercar
This is the latest instalment in the Mercedes SLS AMG strip tease. And naturally, apart from letting loose these new pics, the true Merc supercar story remains shrouded in mystery, and probably will until the car finally debuts at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
But what can we learn from these new shots? Well, the sketches show the lightweight gullwing doors, sweepy headlights and pert rear end that we revealed in our exclusive rendering in the latest issue of iMOTOR.
To be honest, we’re a bit disappointed by the interior. We thought it’d have a more bespoke feel, but from these pics, the inside just looks a bit like any other AMG car, despite the obvious connection that Merc wants to make between its new car and jumbo jets.
Still, let’s not be to flippant about the SLS’ innards. The carbon fibre is nice, and you can see the seven shift lights which tell you to grab another gear in the double-clutch ‘box. You can also see that the rev counter tops out at a whopping 9,000rpm and the speedo reads to 224mph.
The leather-lined interior looks practical too, with a glovebox in front, and storage space between the seats. And it would be rude not to mention the AMG button next to the gear lever, which primes the SLS’ 6.2-litre V8, its seven-speed gearbox, and its trick dampers for high-speed action.
